Fresh controversy for the film about singer, Amy Winehouse.
Creators of the upcoming Amy Winehouse documentary, Amy, might have some explaining to do. With the film's Cannes premiere fastly approaching, the film's organisers will have likely been surprised by a statement released by the late singer's family claiming that the documentary is full of untruths.
Amy is set to follow the meteoric rise of the late Amy Winehouse who rose to fame in the mid 2000s with hits like "Valerie", "Back To Black" and "Rehab". Since her death in 2011, the singer's father has closely looked after her estate, even setting up a charity in his daughter's memory.
Now a spokesperson for the family has expressed a desire in creating distance between the family and the film.
[The family] would like to disassociate themselves from the forthcoming film about their much missed and beloved Amy.[…] They feel that the film is a missed opportunity to celebrate her life and talent and that it is both misleading and contains some basic untruths. There are specific allegations made against family and management that are unfounded and unbalanced.Winehouse family spokesperson
Amy was created by the award winning team behind Senna and director Asif Kapoadia maintains the tim was produced with the full backing of the Winehouse family.
