The Most Popular Tweet Of 2017 Has Been Revealed And It'll Restore Your Faith In Humanity

I think we can all agree that 2017 has been an absolute SHIT SHOW, right? Worse than 2016? Probably. In real life, it's been a mess but on Twitter, it's somehow been even worse.
In there year where Twitter thought it more important to bestow us with 280 characters instead of giving us an edit button and removing white supremacists from the platform, the most popular tweets of the year have truly restored our faith in humanity.
Last year, the most popular tweet came courtesy of a Spanish gaming YouTuber called Elrubius who literally tweeted one meaningless word - Limonada. This year, the most popular tweet actually MEANT SOMETHING and I for one am thrilled.
The most popular tweet - as in, the one that was 'liked' the most times - was literally the most wholesome tweet you could have ever hoped to have read this year.
Barack Obama's tweet in response to Charlottesville where he quoted Nelson Mandela garnered 4.6m likes and 1.7m retweets in less than four months. In fact, the tweet has now become the most 'liked' tweet of all time. OF ALL TIME.

Of course, the most RETWEETED tweet of the year was about chicken nuggets. Remember Carter Wilkerson? The guy who was challenged by Wendy's to get over 18 million retweets in exchange for a lifetime supply of "nuggs"? Yep. Him. The tweet ended up with 3.6m retweets, surpassing Ellen's record-breaking Oscars selfie which was shitty at first but is now probably a good thing because that selfie had Kevin Spacey in it...

Barack Obama's Charlottesville tweet was the second most retweeted tweet of the year while a tweet raising money for the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Houston from Penn State's Infraternity Council came in third.
With the current devastation in Houston, we are pledging $0.15 for every RT this gets! Please forward this along to help out those in need! pic.twitter.com/lodyOBE0eG

Ariana Grande's heartbreaking response to the news that a terrorist attack had taken place at the end of her concert in Manchester in May was the fourth most retweeted tweet.

from the bottom of my heart, i am so so sorry. i don't have words.
Barack was back at it again at number five with an inspiring tweet written days before he left the White House and the presidency where he asked Americans to believe in their own ability to create change.
Thank you for everything. My last ask is the same as my first. I'm asking you to believe—not in my ability to create change, but in yours.

Linkin Park's tribute to Chester Bennington was the sixth most retweeted tweet of the year with over 700k RTs.

Basketball player LeBron James' absolutely SAVAGE roast on Donald Trump in response to Steph Curry's "un-invitation" to the White House garnered over 660k retweets.
U bum @StephenCurry30 already said he ain't going! So therefore ain't no invite. Going to White House was a great honor until you showed up!

Ya boi Barack proved just how popular he is over the world with yet ANOTHER tweet in the top ten most retweeted tweets of the year. His tweet on inauguration day before he flew off to Hawaii without us (rude) also made the list.
It's been the honor of my life to serve you. You made me a better leader and a better man.

Rounding out the top ten was a tweet from Detroit Lions player Sam Martin raising money for dog food in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
And the tenth most retweeted tweet of the year was a tweet promoting suicide awareness containing the same phone number that was also the subject of the Grammy nominated song 1-800-273-8255 by Logic, Khalid and Alessia Cara.

1 person ends their life every 40 seconds
will u take the time to retweet this & possibly save one of them?
As for Trump's most retweeted tweet of the year? It was his tweet of a video of him wrestling a man with a CNN logo superimposed on his head. It received just over 363,000 retweets. SAD!
