The contents of the calendar - which costs £50 - actually only add up to £21.57 in total.
Zoella is currently catching some heat from the internet over her unreasonably priced advent calendar and people are really really pissed off about it.
The calendar, which costs £50 and contains 12 "luxe" products, is currently on sale at Boots. Wanna know what's inside this FIFTY POUND CALENDAR?! Well, we'll bloody tell ya. For fifty english pounds, you can get: A bauble, confetti (yes, really), a candle, a purse, two cookie cutters (in one window), a jotter pad, a keyring, a pen, a room spray, seven sticks and a votive.
Needless to say, people are NOT impressed with the advent calendar at all. Many are pointing out that you can buy almost every item in there for half the price of the actual product itself and many are taking issue that it's only got twelve doors to open while other "luxury" advent calendars have 24 doors and cost much less.
some working class families are probably busting their asses right now trying to afford that £50 Zoella advent calendar and I don't know how she can live with that knowing it's worth about a fiver— sophie (@sophxthompson) November 13, 2017
JaackMaate's video inspired me to see how much Zoella's £50 Christmas Advent calendar was worth.— Yasmine (@YasmineSumman) November 11, 2017
After searching for each item on Amazon and Primark, buying each item individually would all together cost you £21.57 (roughly). So you're paying: £28.43 extra for her name on it. pic.twitter.com/uCXnNDUSzl
Can you believe the actual nerve of that Zoella trying to sell a 12 day advent calendar filled with shite like a cookie cutter, star shaped confetti and stickers to her 10 year old fans for £50— don (@lolzdonz) November 13, 2017
as if one of the "presents" from Zoella's advent calendar is 77p pic.twitter.com/WweUFP1BXG— Charlie (@sexydinnerlady) November 14, 2017
Soap and Glory have brought out a 24 day advent calendar which costs £40. It’s £10 cheaper than Zoella’s 12 day advent calendar and it actually has their products in it, not just confetti.— Chloé (@chloemccabe_) November 13, 2017
Imagine charging £50 for these 12 items— Princess Fiona (@fionareynoldsx) November 13, 2017
The Lifestyle Advent Calendar contains bauble, confetti, purse, candle 130g, cookie cutter x 2, jotter pad, key ring, pen, room spray 30ml, stickers and votive#Zoella
Others are jumping to her defence over the product, saying that she has no say over how much the items in her Christmas collection costs - which is in fact the case.
Oh for the love of god can we STOP this incessant bashing of Zoella for the advent calendar? I don’t see anyone calling the manufacturers or her agents all the names under the sun??— Phoebe (@PhoebeeVictoria) November 14, 2017
Why is everyone acting like Zoella's advent calendar is the first one to be over priced? We pay well over the odds for less than one bar of chocolate with the chocolate calendars!— Kaiden (@SuffolkDad) November 14, 2017
Fourthly, it isn't "just confetti and stickers"? For both candles and the room spray you would already pay that price if it had the name Yankee Candle on it. But now that it's a Youtuber, it's ridiculous? Oh okay then. Just don't buy it if you don't like it. Simple.— Nikki Lou Who (@DLPWonders) November 13, 2017
We discussed the entire thing on the PopBuzz Podcast this week and agreed that it was WAY over-priced for what - and how much - it actually contained. If Zoe had included a wide range of travel sized products from her own bath product line? Fine. It still would have been overpriced but at least we would all be able to smell nice after a shower.
Unfortunately, we can confirm that a 77p cookie cutter, a half decent candle and a purse that costs £4 at the most is an absolute joke, but is it actually Zoe's fault? (Tune in at 6:12 to hear the rant of the century.)
While there's absolutely ZERO reason for people to start attacking Zoe personally for the price of the calendar, it's understandably frustrating for a lot of fans. We know she works incredibly hard and very closely with the manufacturers to make sure her products are perfect but on this occasion, it looks like they've f*cked her up big time.
A spokesperson for Zoella Beauty told Mirror Online: 'Zoe is incredibly proud of the Christmas collection and excited to see it in store. However, the pricing and in store promotional strategy of the collection, including the calendar, is at the control of third parties and is not set by Zoe.'
