Rest assured, Halsey was in the mid-2000s emo trenches with the best of us.

Halsey showed up and showed out over the weekend at the Billboard Music Awards. She was nominated for two honours and her red carpet dress was a certified hit.

The black business in the front, party in the back look was all ruffles and dramatic emo overtures. It was such a mid-2000s emo mood that Halsey made an observation about it on Twitter.

She shared a photo of her dress and captioned it "my-chemical-romance-Helena.mp3". This is, of course, a reference to the 2004 hit song "Helena" by My Chemical Romance.

If you grew up in the mid-2000s and didn't see the "Helena" music video at least once a day on TV, did you really grow up in the mid-2000s?

Anyway. Someone (jokingly) responded that Halsey was "appropriating emo culture", which is actually pretty funny.

To be fair, the Twitter user did clarify that it was a joke. Halsey did, however, take the time to flex her emo credentials.

Ahh, Livejournal and Warped Tour. Those were the days.

When Halsey says she's about that emo life she means it. If there's one celebrity who is good for popping up with your pop punk and emo faves, it's Halsey. She's good friends with Brendon Urie and even went to a Blink 182 concert with the Panic! frontman.

Give. Halsey. Her. Emo. ROSES.
