Are you a Melanie megafan?
Melanie Martinez was Born April 28th, 1995 in Baldwin, New York to Puerto Rican and Dominican parents. Despite that, the young singer says she is not fluent in Spanish.
Melanie says her grandmother inspired her to start singing and, in 2012, the New York native auditioned to be on NBC’s The Voice. She chose to be on Adam Levine’s team because why the hell not. The song she auditioned with was Britney Spears' "Toxic".
When she was eventually voted off The Voice, Melanie said, "I never expected to get this far and this is beyond what I’ve ever dreamed of. I'm just so glad I got to express who I am as an artist and touch people’s hearts because that was the ultimate goal."
Melanie has six tattoos. These include an ice cream cone, a rabbit, and a set of babies.
Melanie plays the ukelele, banjo, and guiar. Does this mean we can look forward to an album of all banjo covers. Is it lame to want this really really bad?
One of Melanie’s favourite tattoos is the bunny on her forearm. It represents the bunny she had when she was younger that was decapitated. Kind of dark, no?
I was watching “101 Dalmatians” and Cruella de Vil popped up on the screen, and I was just like, oh, I’m going to do that. I told my mom and she didn’t really believe me, and I called her from the salon and was like, Mom, I’m getting my hair done like Cruella de Vil, and she was like, no you’re not. She was really really mad at me for a little bit. And I have to get it done every four weeks.
Melanie loves American Horror Story so much that when she found out Season 4 was centered around carnivals, she pitched a song she had written called "Carousel" to the show's producers. A year later, her song appeared on the programme.
Melanie has a dog named Pebbles who she is not afraid to take for walks in heels.
Even though Melanie is quite young, she is also quite old fashioned. She doesn't even own a pair of jeans!
