Melanie's fans are tweeting "receipts" at Timothy after searching for evidence on social media.
On Sunday (Dec 10), Melanie Martinez released another statement claiming the accusations made by Timothy Heller against her were false.
In the post, she wrote: "I understand how hard it could be to see my side of the story, considering no one with a heart would want to invalidate anyone speaking up about this topic." She then goes on to say: "I want to thank fans who took the time to research the timeline, analyze past Instagram photos, and question the story being told which reveal her false statements."
Timothy gave an interview with Newsweek a few days after coming forward with her story where she pinpointed the date of the alleged assault on June 25th 2015.
While many MANY fans believe Timothy and have denounced their support for Melanie, others have gone to extra lengths to defend Melanie by scouring Instagram to prove that the timeline she provided does not match up with where Melanie was at the time.
Fans then started trending #TimothyHellerIsOverParty and started claiming that Timothy made up her story for attention.
It turns out Timothy was lying as a publicity stunt, YOU'RE CANCELLED✋🏻This is the exact day of the supossed RAPE. #MelanieMartinez #MelanieMartinezIsNotOverParty #melaniemartinezisover #TimothyHeller #TimothyHellerIsOverParty pic.twitter.com/dlGBteekpr— Ed Larx (@EdLarx) December 7, 2017
Again, everyone that thinks I am victim blaming #TimothyHeller Im not! She isn’t being consistent with her story along with wrong dates and details! She said a couple weeks after the incident the friendship dropped but what is this tweet dated 3/13/17?#TimothyHellerIsOverParty pic.twitter.com/SwIVYVslwO— Julian (@JewelzToolz) December 7, 2017
Timothy said they had a sleepover. She said Melanie tried to have sex with her for two nights straight at Melanie’s house. The 25th Melanie went home which means the day before that she was NOT at her house in LA. The 24th Timothy was at a Hotel in LA... pic.twitter.com/ujHQ1AKCmR— Demi E! While some are "exposing" Timothy, others are defending her on the hashtag and calling out the fans who are discrediting an alleged victim of assault.
#TimothyHellerIsOverParty is a disgusting hashtag. “she should’ve gone to the police, where’s the proof”— — 🥀 (@lostinpcy) December 6, 2017
IT’S HARD FOR VICTIMS TO COME OUT. IT’S HARD FOR VICTIMS TO PROVE WHAT HAS BEEN DONE AS WELL. STOP DOUBTING RAPE VICTIMS.
As a result, many people on social media are now sharing their concern about coming forward with their own stories because of the backlash Timothy has been getting for sharing hers.
As with many cases of sexual assault, victims are often too scared to tell their story because they feel like they no one will believe them. A hashtag like this is offensive and upsetting to a lot of people.
Since the tweets and Melanie's second statement, Timothy has spoken out on Twitter again.
This is why victims don’t speak up. I wouldn’t wish this upon anyone.— Timothy Heller (@timethyheller) December 10, 2017
If you or someone you know has been affected by this story and need to talk to someone, there are always plenty of places and people that are ready to help.
