Why Do The 1975 Keep Tweeting About 'June 1st'?

Matty Healy has consistently alluded to the date...but what does it actually mean?

Fans of The 1975 are eagerly anticipating the release of their third album, currently titled Music For Cars, which is set to drop at some point in 2018.

And while we still don't have an exact release date for the record, Matty Healy still insists on tweeting out the same date over and over again - June 1st:

So what is the significance of that particular date?

Well, as the frontman revealed a few years ago in an Alt Press interview, the band derived their name from an inscription in a poetry book that read "1st June, The 1975". Since then, it has become something of an inside joke among the fandom that Matty will just decide that the 1st of June is the date when any new project will eventually drop.

So while we will be getting new music later this year, don't count on it necessarily arriving on June 1st.
