Charles Melton opens up about being a 'hopeless romantic' and Riverdale

Charles Melton and Yara Shahidi discuss their new movie The Sun Is Also A Star, Riverdale and their hopelessly romantic sides.
The Sun Is Also A Star finally gets it's UK release date today (Aug 9) and dear lordT we have been waiting a long time for this one.
For those that aren't in the know, the film is based on the YA novel of the same name by Nicola Yoon, who also wrote Everything, Everything. The film stars Yara Shahidi (Grown-ish) and Charles Melton, who plays our beloved Reggie in Riverdale, and follows a young couple, Natasha and Daniel, who fall in love, while one of their families faces deportation.

We sat down with Yara and Charles a little while a go to discuss the film and their characters. The film is very romantic, we the first thing we needed to know was whether they were as romantic as the characters they play, and it turns out they just might be.
"I don't believe in love at first sight...I'm kidding!" jokes Charles, before adding: "I'm a hopeless romantic. Maybe I've become a little jaded but playing this character definitely reminded me and inspired me on how to love again." Awww! His Riverdale co-star and IRL girlfriend Camila Mendes is one lucky lady!
Yara admitted she is romantic but is usually shipping other people's relationships. "I am definitely a romantic, especially when it comes to other people talking about their love life. I'm like a perpetual wannabe wing-woman."

With Riverdale season 4 on the way soon, we asked Yara if she had seen the show yet and she had a hilarious story about the first time she caught an episode...with her great aunt. "So we sit down and we just got a big, new TV...and the first scene, my great aunt was with me..." but it soon got awkward. Real awkward. "...and it's Archie in the car with his teacher making out, and she was like 'Oh, so this is your friend?' [laughs] It was a very awkward first time! So now I have to watch Riverdale in the privacy of my room."
Could we see Yara joining the Riverdale cast anytime soon? Well, Charles would be onboard for it. "I would love to work with Yara again. She is fantastic."
