Sam Smith reveals how Demi Lovato made them feel “queer, femme and confident”
Sam Smith has hinted they might record more music with Demi Lovato following the success of their new single "I'm Ready".
The vocal powerhouses recorded 'I'm Ready' last summer while Sam was working on their now-delayed third album. The album, which was originally titled 'To Die For', has been rescheduled to later in the year, and will be renamed, out of respect for victims of the coronavirus pandemic.

While fans of Sam and Demi were hyped about the collaboration, some fans were surprised that the pair - who are both known for their huge vocal ranges - didn't record a big ballad together. Speaking to PopBuzz, Sam revealed that while they didn't record a ballad this time, they might jump on a ballad with Demi soon.
"I think Demi was on that tip when we got in the studio but that week I think I had been clubbing in WeHo [West Hollywood] a lot. I was just so...up for it [laughs]. I was just so up for a song that was like [throws their hands in the air]...so gay, so musical theatre, so dramatic. I just wanted to go there.
They added: "I went there knowing and hoping that me and Demi will have that ballad moment at some point. We've got our whole lives to sing a slow song together. I didn't want to do what was obvious, y'know?"

Elsewhere in the interview, Sam spoke about why Demi Lovato was so important to them as they were navigating their queer adolescence.
"The way she's navigated herself through pop music for me, as a human and a singer", said Sam, "and as an artist and someone who is my age, I always found her incredibly inspiring. And [she's] honest about how she's found things difficult, and been so open about her experiences, and that's helped me as an artist."
Sam continued: "When I was singing [her songs], I used to feel so femme, so queer and so confident. Singing with her was a joy but doing the video and making this a queer piece of work i think felt really powerful and there was just so much love in the room with everyone involved."
