Yungblud's original idea for the ‘Weird’ video was inspired by an iconic Notting Hill scene.

Yungblud has been keeping himself busy of late. While most of us as sat in our houses playing Animal Crossing and little else, 22-year-old Yungblud, aka Dominic Harrison, has launched a new internet series, hosted a livestream talk show and released new single. Frankly, he's putting us to shame but we'll forgive him because he's a very nice man.

We caught up with Yungblud over Zoom while he's in lockdown in LA to talk about his forthcoming new album, how he finds the time to create all the content he's blessed his fans with, and his new single 'Weird!'

Because of the restriction in place because of lockdown, the video for 'Weird' was shot in his AirBnB for $100. The video has had over 1 million views on YouTube in little over a week. Given the hasty way in which the video was put together, we asked Dom if he originally had a different idea for the video and it turns out that he did, and it was inspired by the iconic 90s film Notting Hill.

"I had this mental one-shot thing that I still want to do. We made this video for a hundred quid at home, so I think we might be able to scrape the barrel, see if we can do a proper one for it", he said.

"Do you remember that scene in Notting Hill when he’s walking down Notting Hill High Street and there’s a transition of nine months in time to ‘Ain’t No Sunshine?’ Well, I just wanted to do that about the world just being fucking mad." You can watch that scene here.

And that's not all the ideas and projects Yungblud still has left to finish. Yungblud fans have been asking for a proper recording of 'Chemicals', a duet with his ex Halsey, for some time now since a live recording of the pair performing the song made its way on the internet back in 2018. Seeing as they appear to be on good terms, we asked Dom if the song will ever see the light of day.

"Dude, everyone’s always saying that. We wrote that song and we love it. As I say, songs will always come out when they’re meant to. That song’s crazy. I remember when we wrote that, it literally came out within an hour and I think maybe one day when we’re both ready to put it out, it will surface and materialise."

We'll put that in the 'definitely maybe might happen' box then.
