Watch the long-time friends of Letterman finish up his final show with personal favourite "Everlong".

David Letterman ended his late night TV hosting reign last night, but he definitely didn't go out without a bang. A huge star-studded list of friends all guest-starred on his final run on The Late Show in New York, culminating in an epic farewell from Foo Fighters at the end.

Letterman credits "Everlong", the band's iconic 1997 single, for helping him recover from open heart surgery fifteen years ago. They cancelled a tour to play it for him back then, and returned last night to give him one last awesome performance, including a montage of some of The Late Show's best moments from its 22 years on air.

Foo frontman Dave Grohl has been a fan of Letterman for many years, and the two have been friends for the length of the band's career, with Foo Fighters playing on the stage at the Ed Sullivan theatre many times during the show's run.

A host of Letterman's other celeb pals also graced the stage one last time, including Tina Fey, Jim Carrey and Steve Martin, to co-host the final Top 10 List, "10 Things I've Always Wanted to Say To Dave":

 Thank you and goodnight, Dave.
