There is a very good chance that, if you're reading this, you probably grew up with Barbie as a part of your childhood. Even though Barbie has been changing with the times for nearly 60 years, 2017 Barbie is a far cry from 1958 Barbie.
For instance, did you know that Barbie is officially an LGBTQ+ ally? Fans were pleasantly surprised when the Barbie Style Instagram account posted an image of the iconic doll wearing a "love wins" t-shirt.
"Love Wins" is an inclusive LGBTQ+ rights slogan popularised after a number of countries won marriage rights for LGBTQ+ citizens.
Barbie isn't alone in expressing her support for LGBTQ+ rights. In the photo, Mattel teamed up with popular style blogger, Aimee Song, who announced last week that she had just joined the Barbie family.
The two figures expressing their support for LGBTQ+ rights understandably had people thrilled.
Many took to the comment section of the photos to share their excitement. Some even pointed out how much they could have used this moment as kids.
Barbie's inclusiveness doesn't just apply to her style. Last month, Mattel announced that they had created a doll in the likeness of U.S. Olympian, Ibtihaj Muhammad. Muhammad is a fencer who chooses to wear hijab, a choice that was also reflected on her doll.
We might wish we had these when we were kids but just remember that there is an entire generation of kids who WILL have these positive messages and representations.
