People Are Using This Trick To Get More Likes On Instagram And You Probably Haven't Noticed

But is it real or just an Instagram conspiracy theory?
Instagram's major algorithm switch up hasn't been met with the most enthusiasm. Earlier in the year, the photo sharing app changed the algorithm that decides how people's posts appear in your feed. It went from chronological order to a system based on posts you've liked in the past. That sparked The Great "turn on your notifications" Panic of Spring 16', and made Instagram more competitive for creators.
That obviously didn't fare well for big ticket, high volume users, who depend on "likes" and visibility in order to grow their brands and rake in deals. Nothing breeds innovation quite like necessity, and these stars may have just figured out a hack to make their posts more visible.

If you haven't already noticed, some of the biggest stars on Instagram have been geotagging themselves in "Singapore, Singapore". Far from being a trendy new Instagram thing, these guys reckon that geotagging themselves in Singapore causes their posts to jump to the top of people's feeds.
There is some speculation about what could be causing Singapore tagged posts to perform better than other posts. Some people even theorize that Instagram hasn't completed its algorithm roll out in some parts of Asia (this is untrue. Singapore got their roll out in April).
One verified user told Mic reporter Taylor Lorenz, "You keep Singapore up for 12 hours, then you change it. [...] It's fully ridiculous and dumb, but it works. I'm not sure why or if it's just because it's become a meme, but the 'Singapore, Singapore' posts do way better. It 100% works."

Ok, if I see another Instagram post using "Singapore, Singapore" as their location, I'm going to fucking scream.

Instagram is yet to confirm how, why, or if 'Singapore, Singapore' is even a thing. But, we'll keep you posted if they do. For now, why not try to get one up on Instagram by tagging yourself in Singapore and seeing if it works!
