Instagram, wyd?

Instagram appear to be on a mission to overhaul the photo-sharing app of late, introducing the new Instagram Dark Mode, changing their rules on diet and cosmetic surgery posts and even imposing bans on celebrity-led filler packages. Whilst those changes have seen praise from Instagram users, their decision to remove the Following activity tab has left a lot of people devastated.

The Following tab was introduced into our lives back in 2011 (before the Explore page!) and we haven't looked back since. It became a safe space for people to spy on their partners Instagram activities and catch celebrities' hilarious clapbacks. But, mainly, it was a great place to monitor how your crush was moving in the comment section.

Why has Instagram removed Following activity tab and where has the Following section gone?

Apparently, the reason behind the following tab's axing is "simplicity". Instagram's head of product Vishal Shah told BuzzFeed News that surprisingly no-one actually used it.

"People didn’t always know that their activity is surfacing," Shah said. "So you have a case where it’s not serving the use case you built it for, but it’s also causing people to be surprised when their activity is showing up."

Shah added: "It wasn't a feature that people used frequently and the company suspected many users didn't know it existed."

RIP, gone too soon.

The internet doesn't seem to agree with the decision to remove the Following tab, in fact, people are having meltdowns.
