People all around the world are posting Merry Impeachmas memes to celebrate Donald Trump getting impeached.

It's official. Donald Trump is now the third president in US history to be impeached and everyone is reacting with memes.

Three months ago (Sep 24), House speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that the US House of Representatives would conduct an impeachment inquiry of Trump after reports surfaced that the President has enlisted "a foreign power to tarnish a rival for his own political gain". In an impassioned speech, Pelosi stated: "The President must be held accountable. No one is above the law."

Pelosi then continued to explain: "This week, the President has admitted to asking the President of Ukraine to take actions which would benefit him politically. The actions of the Trump presidency revealed the dishonourable fact of the President's betrayal of his oath of office, betrayal of our national security and betrayal of the integrity of our elections."

Is Donald Trump still the president? What does impeachment mean?

As it stands, Trump is still the president. Yesterday (Dec 18), the House of Representatives voted on two articles to impeach him (he abused his power and obstructed Congress). The House voted 230-197 to approve the first charge and 229-198 to approve the second. Impeachment means that the Senate will carry out a trial to decide if Trump will remain in office.

The Senate holds a Republican majority so it is unlikely that Trump will be removed from power. However, the fact that Trump has been impeached is still a win for anyone affected by his policies. From Trump tearing families apart with his racist immigration laws to his refusal to work on gun control, his actions as President have been horrifying.

With that in mind, it should come as no shock that millions of people around the world are relieved to hear that he has been impeached. If that weren't enough, the internet has reacted to the news with the funniest memes to celebrate.
