Trump sent a letter to Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan telling him not to be a "tough guy" and "a fool". Obviously, this has inspired memes from every corner of the internet.

A letter that President Donald Trump wrote to Turkey's own leader, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has gone viral on social media this week. The letter's contents were revealed following the withdrawal of US troops from Northern Syria.

In the astonishing letter, Trump urges Turkey's President to reconsider his stance on invading northern Syria, writing: "Let's work out a good deal! You don't want to be responsible for slaughtering thousands of people, and I don't want to be responsible for destroying the Turkish economy – and I will." Hell of an opening line, there.

He also tells Erdogan to not be "a tough guy!" or "a fool!"

Some were unconvinced of the letter's authenticity until the White House itself confirmed that the letter was, indeed, real and not an elaborate hoax. The letter has been criticised for its apparent elementary school level vocabulary and the internet is having an absolute field day parodying the bizarre correspondence.

Trump's letter to Turkey reminded many people of letters written by children.

And of course, hilarious letters from TV.

Does anyone else remember this scene from A Star Is Born?

The stable genius jumped out!

The parodies could not be stopped.

And neither could the dramatic readings.

As if the never-ending stream of memes weren't enough, the BBC reports that President Erdogan threw the letter 'in the bin'. Ouch.
