It's Pride month and the memes are lit

It's June, which can only mean one thing: the gays are taking over.

That's right, it's Gay Pride month. Though many of us like to practice being gay and proud all year round, every year the LGBTQ community comes together for one month to recognise and celebrate the impact that LGBTQ people have had in the world, to remember our struggles and those who have fought for our freedoms, and to rally together to continue the fight for equality and challenge prejudice against queer people all over the world.

Now, as well as being an IRL event, with parades and carnivals happening all of the world, the excitement around pride has also taken over social media too. In fact, Gay Twitter was letting everyone have it over the first weekend, and so we thought we'd round up some of the funniest tweets to get you in the mood for pride.

First things first, there are some rules that ya'll need to remember during Pride. Rule number one:

We didn't write the rules! Sorry about it.

Did you pass the test?

Condragulations!

Rule number two is that you have to wear as many wigs as humanly possible.

Wig!

And finally, rule number three:

Pride is a time for looking back on our history and struggles, as this clip so perfectly demonstrates.

God bless Willam.

It's also a time for educating people on the ideas of tolerance and acceptance. We'll hand over to Hilary Duff to help explain.

Preach.

There were plenty of 'no cops at Pride' memes being shared.

Just imagine...

And people were using social media to call out corporate companies shoehorning rainbows on their products to cash in on Pride.

A LOT of people fell for this "Nintendo Pride" tweet but it's from a fake account. We honestly wouldn't put it past them though...

It's the most wonderful time of the year.

Happy Pride Ya'll!
