Ja Rule defended himself against Fyre Fest criticism by insisting that he "too was hustled, scammed, bamboozled, hood winked, lead astray!!!" Of course, his tweet has now become the basis of a whole lot of memes.

If Netflix's Fyre Festival documentary taught us anything, it's that things can go from bad to worse in no time at all. In addition to all the startling revelations about "the greatest party that never happened", rapper Ja Rule has taken to social media in recent days to clear his name.

Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened details the many missteps of festival organisers, including those of Billy McFarland and rapper Ja Rule. The documentary dropped on Friday January 18 and, since then, Ja Rule has used social media to defend his role in the failed event, arguing that he "too was hustled, scammed, bamboozled, hood winked, lead astray!!!"

Part of Ja Rule's message might sound familiar. A video of sports journalist Stephen A. Smith saying "we have been hoodwinked, bamboozled , lead astray" etc became popular in 2017. The short speech is also in Spike Lee's 1992 film Malcolm X, in which Denzel Washington delivers the rousing lines.

Ja Rule maintains that he too was "hustled, scammed, bamboozled, hook winked, lead astray!!!!" by Billy McFarland and the internet's memes suggest they have also experienced these overwhelming emotions.

People realised that they had also been hustled, scammed, bamboozled et cetera.

The ultimate scam.

Falice stans were LEAD ASTRAY

WELL.

The lady in Gone Girl was a big mood though.

Oh.

Did it spark joy? No. Did I need it anyway? Yes.

TOO REAL.

This really... hits.

Ja Rule may think he was "hustled, scammed, bamboozled, hood winked," and "lead astray" but, as it turns out, so was every body else!!
