The 'Presidential Alert' Notification Has Been Turned Into A Savage Meme
4 October 2018, 12:42
"That #PresidentialAlert was definitely even worse than when U2 put themselves on my phone."
Yesterday afternoon (Oct 3), over 220 million people in the US received a notification on their phones labelled as a 'Presidential Alert' - and it's safe to say that not a lot of people were thrilled about it.
The alert was sent as a test by FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency), who were practicing the roll-out of a new alert system that will be sent should the public be in danger or during national emergencies. (Don't worry, there's laws in place that state Trump can't use it to text you and ask if you're up at 3am.)
Usually, people can opt out of these kind of alerts, whether it be a severe weather warning or an Amber alert about a missing child. However, unlike those other alert systems, 'Presidential Alerts' cannot be turned off.
Needless to say, a lot of people were not impressed about getting a message from the president which they could not opt out of and the second the alert was received, the memes and jokes started rolling in...
