People actually showed up to "raid" Area 51 and the memes are amazing

People have been joking for months that they planned to "storm Area 51" and naruto run inside to "see them aliens". Now, people have actually shown up at Area 51 and the memes are already hilarious.

Earlier this year, a meme where people joked they were planning to "storm Area 51" captured the internet's imagination all because of a viral Facebook event called 'Storm Area 51, They Can't Stop All of Us'. Now, it seems that people have actually shown up at the mysterious military site where, for decades, conspiracy theorists have alleged that aliens are being held.

Yes, people have turned up at Area 51, though there is little evidence that any actual "storming" has taken place. Reuters reports that "several dozen revellers" gathered near "a heavily guarded entrance early Friday, but most did not attempt to enter the site."

Videos and photos from the meetup have already surfaced online. At some points, a live stream has been available to view online. In clips circulating on social media, attendees can be heard on video chanting things like "tell us the truth!" and "clap them cheeks".

The initial event was slated for September 20 (today) from 3 am to 6 am and eventually over 2 million people indicated that they were "going" to the storm Area 51 event–though nowhere near that many people have shown up.

"We will all meet up at the Area 51 Alien Center tourist attraction and coordinate our entry. If we naruto run, we can move faster than their bullets. Lets see them aliens," the description read.

In the beginning, the premise of many of the internet's jokes about the event was that people would show up to the secret Nevada military site and rescue an alien from captivity.

The internet is reacting to news that people actually showed up to Area 51. Needless to say, the memes are incredible.

Anyway, who doesn't love a joke that gets way out of hand?
