This Blogger Photoshopped Herself To Show How Much Internet Stars Edit Their Bodies

It's fairly common knowledge that, what you see with bloggers and internet personalities is not always what you get. It's usually in their best interests to present the glossiest possible version of themselves and, for many, that means a little body modification. No, they're not going under the knife but, rather, they're making subtle changes to their bodies using photo editing apps.
Lifestyle blogger, Amelia, is highlighting those self esteem damaging practices with a campaign called #JustAsIAm. To really illustrate how simple it is for many of her peers to change their actual appearances, Amelia posted an altered photo of herself and the results are pretty realistic.
Amelia's photo caption further explained how simple photo editing tricks further distort the self-image of a lot of young girls.
"Not your usual before and after photo on Instagram - this 'transformation' was done with an app on my phone in under 2 minutes. It's scary just how easy it was to change my entire body and how realistic it actually looks. We all know photoshop exists but I guess you don't expect to see it on social media as well as the magazines and everywhere else so being bombarded by all these 'perfect' photos can take its toll"
Amelia is totally right. One of the biggest allures of social media is that it's supposed to present an authentic snapshot of every day life. At least with magazines and advertisements we all know that the images have been distorted. On social media, we've basically been lulled into a false sense of security when it comes to the authenticity of the the photos we see.
Since Amelia's initial post and video, people have been posting their own #JustAsIAm photos and it's super powerful.

Remember guys, just because something is on social media and it feels more authentic than magazine covers and ad campaigns doesn't mean a photo is totally legit. Don't get caught up in all the body hype because, as Amelia points out, sometimes the people in the pictures don't even look like the people in the pictures.
