In Defence Of YouTube Challenges: Chubby Bunny IS Good Content

Friends, Romans, countrymen, we need to talk about YouTube again. Specifically, about YouTube challenge videos.
How is it that one of the most fruitful genres on the site (yes, YouTube videos have genres, stay with me on this) is constantly dragged in the community?
The main objections I hear against these videos are as follows.
- They suck because they’re not creative.
- They suck because they’re not funny.
- They suck because they’re pointless.
- They suck because there are too many of them.
Let’s break that down, shall we?
Are challenge videos not creative? Fair enough, there's a certain IDGAF-ey weariness that comes with the the 15th Not My Arms Challenge or the 135496th Chubby Bunny Challenge video you see in your feed. But there are now hundreds, if not thousands of different, incredibly weird challenges on the site. And if you say you can get through one of Grace Helbig’s Say Anything videos without laughing, I call b******t, friend.
And let me just address that whole “pointless and unfunny” argument real quick.
These creators are expected to post at least two videos a week now. And tweet. And snapchat. And instagram their whole day. And make public appearances, and work on their brands, and write books because that’s a thing now. Zoella is amazing, but she’s not Confucius. We can’t expect every video to be full of deep, life-altering meaning. If they make thousands of 12-year-olds laugh, they are funny as f**k. Maybe just not in the way you’d expect.
