We looked at the winners for the last 10 years to see if she was right.

Last night, Nicki Minaj brewed and spilled some extraordinary tea on the music industry, Ryan Seacrest, and MTV. The rapper made a series of tweets on the subjects of body image and race, basically guaranteeing that she will likely be passed over for an award at this year's ceremony.

Well, we decided to look back at the last 10 years of MTVs VMA "Video Of The Year" Category to see how slim built women and non-people of colour have faired in the category.

The list below are the winners of "Video of The Year" since 2005.

2005 - Green Day – Boulevard of Broken Dreams
2006 - Panic! At the Disco- I Write Sings Not Tragedies
2007 – Rihanna – Umbrella
2008 – Britney Spears – Piece of Me*
2009 – Beyonce – Single Ladies
2010 – Lady Gaga – Bad Romance*
2011 – Katy Perry – Firework*
2012-  Rihanna – We Found Love
2013 – Justin Timberlake – Mirrors
2014 – Miley Cyrus –Wrecking Ball*

While the majority of the winners in the category have been women, in the last 10 years just two black artists have won the honours. Other female winners besides Beyonce and Rihanna have included Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, and Miley Cyrus.

Taylor is, by all accounts, likely to win the award this year which will bring Nicki's observation to a 50% accuracy rate over the last decade.
