Seriously, YouTube is AMAZING.
The next time your mum/bae bugs you for watching another prank video on YouTube, just utter this name: "Julius Yego". Because the Kenyan javelin champ just won a gold medal at the World Athletics Championships all thanks to our favourite video steaming site. Seriously.
Julius wiped the floor with his competition, winning by over four meters and coming pretty close to breaking a world record. So, did he spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on coaching and equipment? No. He just watched a ton of YouTube videos.
“My coach is me, and the YouTube videos" he said. According to Julius, there aren't many javelin coaches in Kenya so he took matters into his own hands and started to watch the videos of Olympic champions Zelezny and Thorkildsen. Thanks to the power of YouTube, Julius became a self taught javelin genius.
“I watched YouTube and it really paid off for me, to see the training techniques and skills they are using" he said in 2013. So, if you fancy becoming the next Julius Yego, just watch this video. That's literally all it takes*.
*This is a lie. Some effort/skill/talent is requited.
We hate to state the obvious but... YouTube is seriously amazing! The ability to teach yourself a new language/learn how to knit/become a master DJ all for free? We'll be turning off the beauty hauls this weekend and learning a trick or two.
