Whilst some of us look to religion or even common sense to guide us through life, others use the magic of astrology. We lean on it when making all our important life decisions – but have we been reading our star signs wrong our whole lives?
There are loads of theories that not only are we are following the wrong signs but there might even be more zodiac signs than we actually thought. The dates originally assigned to our zodiac signs have shifted and we might even have a whole NEW star sign (please, don't make us Scorpios).
So, we've scoured the internet for the answers to decode your horoscopes. Prepare yourself for a huge cosmic shakeup…
We should really be looking at our Moon signs
When getting into astrology, the first thing most people learn to identify is their Sun sign. Sun sign astrology is what most daily, weekly and monthly horoscopes focus on, but we're SO much more.
Astrologer Danielle Ayoka told Cosmopolitan that women usually feel a stronger connection to their Moon sign, which represents feminine energy. The Moon can be said to be your "inner" and more emotional self, while the Sun is just the general stuff that can be quite limited. Checking the horoscope of your Moon sign can be more accurate than checking your Sun sign, especially during a particularly emotional or taxing day. And in your dating life, Danielle claims Sun signs aren't even that important. So, yes, you might actually be more compatible with a Gemini, who would have thought?

There could actually be 13 signs in the Zodiac…
You might not remember, but in 2016, astrological signs were thought to have had a huge shake-up for the first time in 2,000 years when NASA decided their astronomy system needed a refresh. That meant 86% of people went into panic thinking they had a different sign.
Basically, the sky today has changed a lot compared to thousands of years ago and because Earth's axis no longer points in the same direction, people believed our astrological signs are a little muddled.
NASA later cleared up the confusion saying there wasn't too much to worry about and that the changes only effected astronomy and not astrology, but that wasn't the first time a 13-sign zodiac had been suggested. British astrologist Walter Berg famously operates using 13-sign astrology, while it was even suggested "Cetus" is the 14th zodiac sign by astrologist Stephen Schmidt.

What exactly is Ophiuchus?
We've always known about Ophiuchus. It was deliberately left out of the original zodiac over 2000 years ago, even though the Sun passes it after Scorpius (or Scorpio) and before reaching Sagittarius. It's not understood why, but it could be because ancient astrologers wanted to divide the 360 degree path of the Sun into a whole number.
Many astrologers still don't recognise it as a sign, just a constellation, but it still has traits and a symbol – the "Serpent Bearer", which is the only sign depicting a man.
According to The AstroTwins, their traits include being secretive, jealous, likeable and "sexually magnetic". Basically a combo of Scorpio and Sagittarus – lucky them.
Surprisingly, astrology isn't actually meant to tell us what to do or predict the future. It's purpose is to simply advise on the best way to do things according to the astrological influences that are affecting our lives. Ultimately, we have the power… even when that chaotic retrograde energy has us feeling frazzled AF.
