*cries in bisexual*

20GayTeen isn't even over yet and the internet has already fixed its gaze to next year, which is now being dubbed '20BiTeen'.

Yes, the year of the bisexual is upon us and honestly it's about goddamn time.

For those not in the loop, the phrase 20GayTeen was coined by Hayley Kiyoko in anticipation of her album release in 2018 but it soon became a viral hashtag to celebrate the achievements of people from the LGBTQ+ community, as well as notable moments of queer representation in culture.

In fact, the Bi community had a pretty good year in 2018. After the success of Janelle Monae's 'Make Me Feel' video in February, people started to referring to a phenomena/meme called 'Bisexual lighting' (although the phrase was coined in 2017) in which music videos and films with a bisexual narrative use ultraviolet hues of pink, purple, and blue lighting - the same colours as the bisexual flag (once you notice it for the first time, you see it EVERYWHERE).

There were also several high-profile coming outs too; Abbi Jacobson, Tessa Thompson, Daya, Donna Missal, Alyson Stoner to name but a few while artists like Halsey and Lauren Jauregui continued to open up about bisexuality in their music and in interviews. The Bi Life became the first dating show in the UK to exclusively feature bisexual people, hosted by bisexual drag queen Courtney Act and several bisexual characters and relationships featured in films and primetime TV shows.

So can 20BiTeen beat 20GayTeen? Some people certainly think so.
