Frida Kahlo, Amelia Earhart, Chloe Kim, Nicola Adams and other incredible women are getting the doll treatment to celebrate International Women's Day.
Barbie is celebrating International Women's Day this year with an incredible collection. The iconic toy brand will honour women whose valuable contributions have changed history and paved the way for others.
Young Barbie fans will be able to buy dolls that depict the likenesses of "Inspiring Women" like Amelia Earhart (American aviator), Frida Kahlo (Mexican painter), and Katherine Johnson (American mathematician at NASA).
Barbie will also release 14 dolls that depict modern day role models like Chloe Kim (American Olympian), Patty Jenkins (American director), Bindi Irwin (Australian conservationist), and Nicola Adams OBE (British boxing champion).
From athletes to filmmakers, journalists, and designers, women who have achieved so much in their fields will be honoured as role models.
"As a brand that inspires the limitless potential in girls, Barbie will be honoring its largest line up of role models timed to International Women's Day because we know that you can't be what you can't see," said Senior Vice President and General Manager of Barbie, Lisa McKnight.
Rolling these gorgeous dolls out for International Women's Day is huge. So many young women only come to realise they can hold a place in history when they are able to see that other girls who look like them have already paved the way. The earlier we can inspire girls, the brighter their futures will be.
Something as small as a Katherine Johnson Barbie doll could very well inspire a little girl to study a STEM subject and change the world the same way Katherine did.
Olympic Snowboarder Chloe Kim reacted on Twitter to the news that she was now immortalized as a Barbie doll.
Ahh! Im so happy to be honored as a @Barbie Shero alongside these incredible women! #InternationalWomensDay #Barbie pic.twitter.com/U0J7ajM0Sd— Chloe Kim (@chloekimsnow) March 6, 2018
Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins also shared her excitement.
Can't express how totally mind blowing and delightful it is to have your childhood favorite resemble you!! Thank you @Barbie, for this incredible honor, and for celebrating all kinds of women, everywhere. What a great way to inspire the girls of tomorrow! pic.twitter.com/X5FteJQltn— Patty Jenkins (@PattyJenks) March 6, 2018
