The man in question might have been a former member of the centre.

LGBTQ centres are a place of sanctuary for many teens. Often they are the only place where they can meet other queer people their own age, providing a vital lifeline against isolation, fear and bullying that are all to common experiences for queer teens in our society. The idea that someone might mindlessly burn down these places is as barbaric as it is senseless.

Sadly, that's exactly what happened in Phoenix, AZ. Police are  looking for a man who was caught on camera starting a fire in the LGBT youth centre. In video footage from inside the centre, found by ABC13, the man can be seen walking into the building and pouring liquid on the floor. We assume it must have been petrol or other highly flammable substance as second later he steps out of the room and it goes up in the flames.

In a potentially shocking twist to the story, the police are allegedly think the suspect used to be a client at the youth centre, but was unable to continue attending when he turned 25. They are now looking to question the so far unnamed-person.

We can't even begin to imagine why someone would do that. Luckily no one was injured but a lot of equipment was destroyed in the fire. Let's hope the guy gets caught and the centre has access to funds to repair and replace what was lost.
