Can we catch an astrological break, perlease?

We didn't think summer could get much more brutal after the mercury retrograde but, oh look, here came TWO eclipses. Yep, eclipse season is upon us and we're going to have to brace ourselves for the fall out.

The Mercury retrograde is coming and everyone's going into meltdown

Basically, there's a full moon and partial lunar eclipse in Capricorn happening on July 16th (TODAY!!) and it's meant to bring massive changes in our personal and professional lives.

This is the second eclipse of the month because the universe granted us with a total solar eclipse on July 2. The new moon in Cancer was linked to fresh stars and surprising, new opportunities – but what's in store for the lunar eclipse?

What is a lunar eclipse?

A lunar eclipse only occurs during a Full Moon, when it passes directly behind Earth. It happens when the Sun, Earth and Moon are in perfect alignment, with Earth between the two casting a shadow on the Moon's surface.

Lunar eclipses are sometimes called Blood Moons because they appear to be dark orange or red in colour. Because today we'll only see a partial lunar eclipse it has been dubbed a Half Blood Moon.

Eclipses are messy at the best of times and today's seems to be one of the messiest. According to Cosmopolitan, the eclipse will open new doors in our lives but it'll mean others will slam shut. It's all about big and important changes, letting go of things (and people) and making way for exciting new opportunities.

This full moon is also particularly powerful, Women's Health reports. The moon is about to drag our personal and professional lives for filth. Are we truly happy with our lives? What can we change to make it better? It'll force us into making some serious decisions and decide what really brings us joy. Basically, the lunar eclipse is Marie Kondo.

"The lunar eclipse on the 16th is a powerful time for releasing; whether you need to let go of a habit, a relationship, or even the past, the energy is there to help you," Astrologer Jessica Lanyadoo told Refinery 29. "The downside of this is that if you don't use this energy to transform what you've outgrown, you're likely to be confronted by drama, or find yourself caught up in obsessive and self-destructive thoughts, or projecting past hurts onto current situations."

Sadly, no-one is safe from the wrath of an eclipse. Every sign will have to deal with it in some way. However, the cardinal signs (Capricorns, Libras, Cancers and Aries') are said to feel the effects of the lunar eclipse the most.

What is the timing of today's lunar eclipse?

This month's partial lunar eclipse means we'll only see a part of the Earth's shadow on the moon. So, whilst a lot of the world will be gazing into the sky to catch a glimpse of the eclipse, the majority of the US won't be able to see a thing.

In the UK, we'll be able to see the eclipse for a few hours through various phases. It'll begin rising at 9:06pm but it will be quite low in the sky. By 10:30pm it'll be at maximum eclipse and the moon will be closest to the centre of the shadow.

As to be expected, people were starting to freak out over what the possible cosmic changes could bring.
