Here's what can happen when you bottle up your stress.
You know when you're super stressed out? The type of stressed out where you forget where you kept your keys or that you have a doctors appointment? Imagine being so stressed that you forget your name and entire family.
A few years back, a woman by the name of Marie Coe happened to forget everything about herself.
This wasn't a result of a brain injury or a life-threatening anomaly. Marie worked 12 hour days, rarely rested, and traveled frequently. Her stress levels were through the roof.
One day, while away from home, Marie suddenly forgot where she lived or who she was. "The paramedics asked me basic questions but I couldn't remember anything," she told The Daily Mail.
On top of that, she couldn't remember being in love with her husband or even who her children were.
Doctors found out that her sudden amnesia was a condition called "disassociative amnesia" as a result of her stress. Now, this condition is rare but it goes to show how our bodies can react to extreme stress. Marie kept her stress and emotional weight bottled up leading to this extremely rare form of amnesia.
Neurologist, David Poulad M.D. told SELF that "finding ways to de-stress is very important to overall wellbeing".
There's your cautionary tale, guys. We're all ambitious but don't forget about self-care!
