Happy World Emoji day, gang! If you're not familiar with the joyous occasion, it's a celebration of what's been described as the fastest growing language in the UK. Welcome to 2016, guys. It's pretty wild out here.
Just in time for World Emoji day, Unicode have announced a new set of emojis and they're probably the best new set...ever.

A few months ago, serious rumblings started to rise up about the major lack of professional female emojis available. Always, tampon brand, even did a whole campaign around the fact that there were no female doctor, police officer, firefighter etc emojis.

Google thought this was a big issue as well, so they submitted some proposals to the powers that be (Unicode), and subsequently worked closely with them on some new emoji ideas.
Fast forward to July and world emoji day right around the corner.
Google and Unicode are confirming that 11 new professional emojis (male and female) have been added...in all skin tones!

Unicode is also adding male and female versions of emojis that already exist. So, in essence, you've got female bicyclists, weight lifters, detectives, and surfers coming at you real soon.
The new professions added include a doctor, rock star, construction worker, coder, scientist, chef, GRADUATE, and more.
"These new emoji are one of several efforts we’re making to better represent women in technology," says Google, who are also working on a project called Made With Code, which facilitates opportunities for young women to learn to code.
We did it, ya'll! While it may not seem like a huge deal, let's never forget that representation matters. It was pretty wild that so many professional and athletic emojis excluded women. Thankfully, Google and Unicode are committed to creating a more inclusive experience for girls and POC. So, enjoy your 11 new professional emojis! You earned them, fam.
