5SOS, "Sounds Good Feels Good" first listen.
No one gets more hyped to hear new music from 5 Seconds of Summer than we do. It's kind of our thing. We're obsessed. So imagine our absolute delight when a little record called Sounds Good Feels Good landed in our laps. Score.
Being that you're all probably dying to know what it sounds like, we thought we'd help you get pumped for next October 23 by telling you how good the album sounds and feels.
Track: "Money"
Sounds like:
Early 2000s Blink 182 having a 2015 revival moment. It's definitely meant to be played in a stadium. Big riffs, big vocals, big drums. It's kind of a big deal.
Feels like:
Track: "She's Kinda Hot"
Sounds like:
A lead single kind of song.
Feels like:
Track: "Hey Everybody"
Sounds like:
Duran Duran's "Hungry Like The Wolf"--in the verse bits anyway. They're loving the bass on this one. "Hey Everybody" has a nice slow building quality to it, which is actually a solid bit of song composition.
Feels like:
Track: "Permanent Vacation"
Sounds like:
Dookie era Green Day. Even the song title and subject matter reminds me of a young Billie Joe Armstrong lamenting about mental health issues and being a young person. Then there is that min-drum aside which is more American Idiot era Green Day.
Feels like:
Track: "Jetblack Heart"
Sounds like:
The boys getting very emoshe on us. And also the late 00s
Feels like:
Track: "Catch Fire"
Sounds like:
A romantic, uptempo semi-ballad. "Catch Fire" is a head bopper and probably the most mature on the record (in terms of composition and song writing)
Feels like:
Track: "Waste The Night"
Sounds like:
The Cure with that opening riff. Careful, boys. Also, at the risk of having tomatoes thrown at me...the chorus is definitely something One Direction would be down to sing. Just an observation.
Feels like:
Track: "Vapor"
Sounds like:
Vocals are definitely on fleek. It's another one of those semi-romantic middle tracks that kind of rounds out the album but that doesn't add too much to the body of work.
Feels like:
Track: "Castaway"
Sounds like:
The mid 2000s. The opening guitar riff is really strong.
Feels like:
Track: "Fly Away"
Sounds like:
Very high energy and descriptive--lyrically. It's pretty strong in the chorus bit so I'd keep an eye out for "Fly Away" as *maybe* the next single.
Feels like:
Track: "Invisible"
Sounds like:
The mid 2000s. The violin action at the end is a nice touch.
Feels like:
Track: "Airplanes"
Sounds like:
This one is quite interesting, sonically. The boys were clearly quite inspired by pop punk bands they grew up with--as is evidenced on "Airplanes".
Feels like:
Track: "San Francisco"
Sounds like:
"I can still taste you" is quite a way to begin a song.
Feels like:
Track: "Outer Space--Carry On"
Sounds like:
The boys sure do like to reference London.
