According to Urban Dictionary, "a blaccent is a distinctive manner of speech, pitch or tone particular to African American urban inner city youth".

Ariana Grande's accent has been put under the spotlight after a video circulated of her supposedly speaking with a "blaccent".

Ari was named Billboard's 'Woman Of The Year' after dropping her masterpiece of a video, "thank u, next" and as part of her interview with the magazine, she took a look back at her adorable baby pics, sharing advice to her younger self.

"I'm like bitch that's my cookie," she said, holding up one photo. "That's my juice, okay. Carry on. Thank you, next. That's what this baby picture says." People soon noticed that Ari sounded a little different than usual and had particularly emphasised her pronunciation of the word "juice".

Someone then posted a comparison between the way Ariana used to speak, compared to her accent now.

People thought she was deliberately trying to sound like a Black woman – some even compared it to "blackfishing".

Nonetheless, others defended Ari and insisted she had always spoken like that.

This hasn't been the first time people have accused Ari of milking the culture. Ariana – who is of Italian descent – has been accused of blackface before because of her love of a deep tan, most recently in her Breathin' video.
