Billie Joe Armstrong praised Billie Eilish and dissed Ariana Grande in a recent interview.

Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong is facing backlash over comments he made about Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish.

It's no secret that Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande are two of the biggest superstars in the entire world right now. Billie recently made Grammys history as the first female artist to win Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Best New Artist in the same ceremony. Meanwhile, Ariana has dominated the industry over the past five years with hit after hit after hit.

Ariana and Billie are hugely supportive of each other in real life (Billie even said that Ariana deserved to take home her Album of the Year Grammy award) but not everyone is a fan of both of them as Billie Joe Armstrong made clear in a new interview.

Speaking to USA Today about Billie Eilish's wins at the Grammys, Billie Joe Armstrong said: "It was great. I'm stoked for her and Finneas. It's insanely well-deserved. Their music is very real, and you can tell it all comes from them, which is what sets it apart from what other pop acts are doing."

Billie then added: "It's not even comparable to think about what she does compared to someone like Ariana Grande. She's the real deal." It's true that Billie's music is very real but Ariana's is too and putting Ariana down to compliment Billie didn't sit well with the internet.

Not only did Ariana co-write every single song on her last album thank u, next but the entire album is directly inspired by her own personal trauma. It's understandable why fans believe Billie Joe Armstrong saying her music isn't real is out of line.

As it stands, Billie Joe Armstrong is yet to respond to the backlash to his comments. We shall update you if he does.
