People Are SWEATING Over Ariana Grande's Explicit 'R.E.M' Lyrics

We can't deal...
Sweetener is finally here. After months of teasing it, Ariana Grande has officially released her highly anticipated fourth studio album and it's safe to say that it was worth the wait. Not only does the LP see the 'Dangerous Woman' popstar explore new sonic territory ('Better Off', 'Blazed') but it also features bops galore ('No Tears Left to Cry', 'Breathin'') and moving deep cuts ('Get Well Soon', 'Pete Davidson').

That's not all though. The record is grown af and it contains some of Ariana's most sexually explicit lyrics yet. First there's 'God Is a Woman', which Ariana released as the album's second single in July. In it she sings about the fact that she is so good at sex, that anyone who has sex with her will believe that god is a woman. And now there's 'R.E.M', which fans are dying over.
The track itself was originally recorded by Beyoncé under the title 'Wake Up'. However, she passed on it and Ariana rewrote it with Pharrell for Sweetener. 'R.E.M' stands for Rapid Eye Movement which is a stage during sleep in which people have vivid (often sexual) dreams and the track itself is about exactly that.
'R.E.M' opens fairly innocently (Ariana opens up about seeing a boy in her dreams - "Mhm, last night, boy, I met you, yeah // When I was asleep". However, it then escalates majorly. By verse three, Ariana is getting freaky: "You know how to treat it, you know how to eat it // You know how to beat it". OMFG.
Quite frankly we're obsessed. And we're not the only ones. Arianators across the world are taking to Twitter to praise the song. Here are just a few of the reactions.
Some can't get over how dreamy it is.

Most people are stuck on that explicit lyric though.

Understandable.
And others are speculating that it's about Pete.
im not sure if ariana made rem before she met pete but the fact she chose that song for her album & the fact she has pete saved as âcutie who dreamsâ in her phone bc he only started dreaming with her WHEW everything about this album falls so perfectly together how beautiful

That would make sense.
People are even editing Ariana and Beyoncé's versions together.

VERSE 1
Mhm, last night, boy, I met you, yeah
When I was asleep (sleep)
You're such a dream to me, mmm, woah
And it was on a day like this, yeah
If you can believe
If you can believe (If you can believe)
You're such a dream to me
CHORUS
Before you speak, don't move
âCause I don't wanna wake up
Wake up, wake up, wake up
Don't wanna wake up, oh
Wake up, wake up, wake up
Boy, you're such a dream if you can believe, ayy
Boy, you're such a dream to me
VERSE 2
"Excuse me, um, I love you"
I know that's not the way to start a conversation, trouble
I watch them other girls when they come and bug you
But I felt like I knew you, so I just wanted to hug you
Plus, you don't know your way around
You can stop your playing now
All your worries, lay 'em down, shh, don't say it loud
Is this real, baby?
(Bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum)
You like?
"I love you"
Who starts a conversation like that? Nobody, but I do
But you are not a picture, I can't cut you up and hide you
I'll get you out my mind, mhm, I tried to
But I just want to stand and yell
I will never dare to tell
Think I heard some wedding bells, shh, keep it to yourself
Is this real? (Is this real?)
CHORUS
Before you speak, don't move
âCause I don't wanna wake up
Wake up, wake up, wake up
Don't wanna wake up, oh no
Wake up, wake up, wake up
'Cause you're such a dream if you can believe
You're such a dream to me, mmm, boy
VERSE 3
I could buy you anything, but I cannot buy you
Before your boy gets smart, I would never try to
You know I'm thinking to myself, "What happened, why you?"
But when I see you in my dreams, psh, I knew
You know how to treat it, you know how to eat it
You know how to beat it (I know how to keep it)
The Good Housekeeping Seal
(Bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum)
I don't just wanna touch you
I'm tryna turn two single people into a couple
What's your next month like? Tell me what ya up to
We can leave right now, boy, you don't need a duffle
What about La Perla? Let Vickie keep her secret
Boy, it ain't no secret if I know you're gonna peep it, oh
CHORUS
Before you speak, don't move
âCause I don't wanna wake up
Wake up, wake up, wa-wake up
Wake up, wake up, wake up, wa-wake up
Oh, I don't wanna
POST-CHORUS
'Cause you're such a dream (does this end?)
If you can believe, you're such a dream to me
To me, mmm, boy, to me
