Billie Eilish has confirmed that she'll be recording a new album in 2020. Here's everything we know so far...

Billie Eilish's first album When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go? may have only been released last year, but anticipation is already high for its follow up.

The release of her first album catapulted the LA teen into mega-fame and despite only recently turning eighteen, the singer has had an incredible music career so far, becoming the youngest artist ever to be nominated in all four of the most prestigious Grammy award categories, headlining Coachella at just 17 years old and having her first album go straight to No.1.

When will Billie Eilish release her second album?

Well, we don’t actually have an official release date yet, or even a release month. But Billie has spoken a bit about when we can expect the follow up to When We All Fall Asleep… Speaking to iHeartRadio, when asked if a new album was coming in 2020, she replied: “This year, no, but I will be making it this year. But next few years? It’s coming. When it’s made. It’s not made yet.”

How far along she is in the process, we can’t be sure but she’s definitely started working on some potential album tracks alongside her brother Finneas. “We're deep into the creative process on new material for sure,” Finneas told Zane Lowe on Beats 1 in October 2019. “[First EP] Don't Smile at Me came out August of '17 and the album came out in March 29th of 2019, right? But you know, we were percolating that whole time.”

What will Billie Eilish’s new album sound like?

While Billie herself hasn’t said much on what kind of sound we could expect on her second album, but her brother has. “I think so far, in album two…there’s just a lot of stories we felt we didn’t get to tell yet,” Finneas said at the American Music Awards last year.

He also said him and Billie are being “experimental” with the album’s new sound. “I think if you’re not trying to change things a little bit, you’re not evolving,” he explained. “So I think we’re just trying to embrace everything that we are proud of in our music and also just try new things and experiment and give people stuff to look forward to.”

Whatever the new album sounds like though, she’ll definitely have a lot to draw from in her personal life when writing the lyrics and has spoken about feeling under pressure in the making of the album. “[My next album] haunts me,” she told Rolling Stone. “There was a period where I was like, ‘Do I even enjoy music?’ It just felt like so much touring. And I don’t mean the shows. The shows are always my favourite part.”

“But it was just traveling and being alone all the time, on a cold bus in Europe, horrible food, and when you come back, everyone’s kind of moved on from you. This last tour I went on was the first I’ve ever enjoyed. I feel like I have this amazing thing that now I actually see.”

What songs will be on the new album?

Since Billie is still in the process of writing and recording the album, there are no confirmed new album tracks yet. The only song she’s released since When We All Fall Asleep… is ‘everything I wanted’, but as this appears on the re-issue of her first album, it’s probably not going to appear on her second.

Will there be any collaborations on Billie Eilish’s new album?

Hopefully! No collaborations have been confirmed yet, but a few artists have teased that they could be making an appearance with Billie on new music in future.

In March last year, Rosalia posted a photo of her and Billie, writing “Can’t wait to finish our song”, which suggests they are definitely working on something together. Then in December, speaking to Billboard Rosalia confirmed they were working on a song, but still needed to finish it: “I actually love the song. It's half in Spanish—for both of us—half in English. Yeah, it's so beautiful. I hope something happens with it. I'm sure it will. We're both in love with it. So, I think there's a future for it."

Another artist who has expressed interest in working with Billie is Tyler, The Creator. Speaking to Beats 1, Tyler said: “I wanna work with her. I don’t know what the fuck we would make, even if it don’t come out, if it’s trash, I still just wanna see what we could [do together].”

Posting the clip of Tyler on Instagram, Billie replied: “Lmfaoooooo I would never in a billion years have thought these words would come out of this man’s mouth. Wow. I would be nothing without you Tyler… Everyone knows it.”
