Billie posted a series of messages on her Instagram story.

Billie Eilish has paid tribute to her friend XXXTentacion one year after he was killed.

For those not aware, Billie and controversial rapper XXXTentacion were friends before he was killed in 2018. Bhad Bhabie has also spoken about how she and Billie bonded through their grief over XXXTentacion's death. On the anniversary of his death, Billie posted a tribute on her Instagram story that read: "Miss you. Hope you're ok up there. Long live you."

While she didn't directly mention who it was about, many fans assumed that the message was for XXXTentacion, who was shot and killed on June 18 2018 in an armed robbery.

Billie has been vocal about her love of the rapper in the past and has previously spoken about the backlash she received for mourning him.

In an interview with The New York Times, Billie spoke about the criticism she had got last year after posting a tribute to the controversial rapper. In life, XXXTentacion faced legal troubles stemming from domestic abuse charges, harassment and witness tampering. The charges were dropped following his death but that it is not the same as being found not guilty.

Billie said that she just wanted to mourn her friend in peace and doesn't think she deserved the "hate" she got over it.

"I want to be able to mourn, I don’t want to be shamed for it," said the singer.

“I don’t think I deserve getting hate for loving someone that passed.”
