The lyrics to 'Should've Said It' are pretty wild, but are they actually about Shawn Mendes?

Ah, young love. Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes are still in the honeymoon phase of their whirlwind romance and the pair have been shouting their love from the rooftops since going public.

Both Camila and Shawn are musicians, which means that they will inevitably share their thoughts on each other's work. Camila's Romance album hit shelves last week (6 December) and the singer has now revealed that Shawn's favourite song from the release is 'Should've Said It'.

Camila Cabello's 'Should've Said It' lyrics are pretty relatable for anyone who has ever had complicated long term feelings for another person. "Should've Said It" is the third track on Camila Cabello's Romance album and the lyrics pack quite the punch. On the song, Camila does not hold back about a guy who she says "took 2 years to make up [his] mind."

On 'Should've Said It' Camila also advises that this mystery person should have held her "closer instead of [his] pride". Whew. She said what she SAID.

The 'Should've Said It' lyrics get spicy from the song's opening lines. "So you want me now? Fans have been speculating with a lot of confidence that the song may be referencing her and Shawn's relationship.

Obviously, Camila didn't give fans a roadmap to decipher which 'Should've Said It' lyrics, if any, are about Shawn Mendes specifically. However, the details about a drawn-out period of time where a potential love interest is holding back from confessing their true feelings sounds a lot like what the pair have said about each other in the past.

Camila has confessed that they first started crushing on each other about five years ago and during a fan Q&A, Shawn dished on "fighting" for Camila's love, even though it took time.

"If I told you the whole story of Camila, it would take a long time. I would say that you have to fight for someone you really love. And if you really truly love them, then you'll get them. It just takes time."

While expanding on the song's meaning, Camila recalled feeling angry about a situation where she liked ~someone but the timing didn't line up.

“I had liked him, but he wasn't ready. And so then he liked me, but I was not really there to like him in that way anymore, because I moved on."
