Halsey has no time for any prejudice against the LGBTQ+ community...

Halsey is truly thriving right now. After landing her first US Number 1 album with hopeless fountain kingdom in 2017, our fave has since gone on to dominate the charts this year with not one but five hit singles (from 'Bad at Love' to 'Eastside', the icon in the making never fails us). However, it's her latest hit 'Without Me' that is really changing things up. People all across the world are connecting to its chillingly personal lyrics.

Last night Halsey performed 'Without Me' on the season 15 finale of The Voice and it was nothing short of amazing. Not only did the 24-year-old slay her vocals but she also blessed us with a stunning LGBTQ+ narrative. The staging included intimate choreography between Halsey and a female dancer. Naturally, homophobic people complained about it but, ever the queen, Halsey dragged her trolls in the best way.

First things first, Halsey tweeted about how proud she was of what she achieved with the performance. After it aired, she wrote: "Very proud of the emotional performance i did with @JadeChynoweth on @NBCTheVoice tonight. And also very proud to have pissed off thw homophobic viewers at home who missed the message. Thanks for watching."

She then added: "Represention matters. Thanks @NBCTheVoice for giving a space for this vision to come to life. šŸ¦‹ and thank you @JadeChynoweth for being an incredible human who used her body like the ultimate instrument for this collaboration." We are so lucky to have a bisexual star like Halsey in pop right now.

Halsey also discussed what the performance means to her on Instagram. "Lots of people angry because we performed the story of a wlw couple and their emotional journey. Representation matters. Iā€™m proud I got to put this on so many television screens tonight. Younger me is stoked."

Check out the performance, tweets and Instagram post below.

That wasn't all though. When people continued to give Halsey crap for the performance, she reminded fans that this isn't the first time that people have complained about her queer content. "Then I put out a video where I'm making out with a girl and suddenly everyone is like... "This is pornographic. And it blows my mind that it can be considered more provocative or near pornographic because of that. Which is lowkey why I made the fucking video".

Halsey also put a troll directly in their place. One viewer of The Voice tweeted a shot of Halsey and Jade writing: "Disgusting. Done with the voice after this BS." and Halsey responded: "I too find hugs DISGUSTING !!!". We're dying.

A lesson in dragging.

The troll who complained responded to Halsey's tweets by writing "Iā€™m not the least bit homophobic but your ā€œperformanceā€ was absolutely not appropriate for television." She also said: "Her performance was not appropriate for a show that caters to families and children. I donā€™t give a rats ass whether sheā€™s gay, straight, bi, whatever." Slut-shaming? In this economy?

A fan responded writing "I have some news about the Olympics..." pointing out that ice skating performance are often just as, if not more, intimate and no-one complains. Halsey retweeted them writing: "This made me choke in laughter. love is love, baby. And jade, the dancer accompanying me is as much of an athlete as these two rock on".

What a star. Seriously slut-shaming and homophobia have no place in 2018 and it's so great that celebrities like Halsey use their platforms to not only centre LGBTQ+ art and sexual liberation but also call out anyone who has an issue with it.
