Harry Styles disses Zayn in SNL skit about One Direction

Harry Styles called Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson his "brothers" but left out Zayn in his SNL monologue.

Harry Styles is being criticised by Zayn fans after making a dig at his former One Direction bandmate on Saturday Night Live.

King of high-waisted trousers Harry Styles hosted SNL on Saturday (Nov 16). As well as acting in multiple hilarious sketches, Harry was also the show's musical guest. The 25-year-old sang his new single 'Lights Up' live on TV for the first time and he even debuted a brand new song, 'Watermelon Sugar', from his upcoming album, Fine Line. After SNL aired, Harry released 'Watermelon Sugar' for his fans and it's already hit Number 1 on US iTunes and in multiple countries all around the world.

For the most part, Harry's SNL episode received rave reviews but he's receiving some backlash for dissing Zayn.

During Harry's SNL monologue, he brought up One Direction. He first joked that they might all be there with him. Harry said: "I was in a band called One Direction. How crazy would it be if they were here tonight? Well, they're not here. Wouldn't it be crazy if they were though? They're not." He then added: "I love those guys. They're my brothers. Niall, Liam, Louis and er... Ringo. Yeah, that's it. I'm just so grateful Simon Cowell grew us in those test tubes." And I oop.

Obviously, Harry didn't actually forget Zayn's name and it was all part of a joke but it didn't go down too well with some 1D fans. One person tweeted: "that really pissed me off because zayn been minding his business for YEARS. he doesn’t really do interviews... but than harry gonna rock up on snl and insult him???? are you dumb???" Another said: "imagine if harry styles could stop being salty over the fact that zayn left before he got the chance to".

On the other side of things, some people rushed to defend Harry. Someone tweeted: "YALL ARE ACTING LIKE HARRY DID SOMETHING GENUINELY BAD IM LAUGJING SO HARDHDJSJD HE MADE A FUCKING JOKE THAT WAS WRITTEN FOR HIM". A fan also said: "ringo was the first member to leave the beatles.... zayn was the first to leave 1d. thats literally all harry meant by his joke. y’all need to calm down it wasn’t that deep".

As it stands, Harry hasn't said anything further about his joke. We shall update you if he does.
