Louis Tomlinson pays tribute to his mum in moving 'Two of Us' lyrics

Louis Tomlinson's 'Two of Us' lyrics are incredibly personal...

Louis Tomlinson is back with a new single. The beloved One Direction star released his first solo music back in 2016 with his Steve Aoki collaboration 'Just Hold On'. He then followed it up with the hit Bebe Rexha duet 'Back to You' and 'Miss You' in 2017. Last year, Louis stepped out of the limelight to focus on being an X Factor judge but now he's finally ready to put out new music and we couldn't be more excited.

Today (Mar 7), Louis released his new single 'Two of Us'. The track is a personal ode to his Mum who passed away in 2016 after battling leukaemia and it's both heartbreaking and moving. In the ballad, Louis sings: "It's been a minute since I called you // You'll never know how much I miss you // The day that they took you // I wish it was me instead". It's an all too familiar feeling for anyone who's ever lost a loved one.

Talking in a new interview about his mum and the song, Louis said: "She would have loved it, she was a fan of ballads. My mum wasn’t about feeling sorry for herself. Again that’s what gives me pride and comfort singing the chorus. It feels really liberating. Just had to bite the bullet and fucking do it. I knew I needed to write this song but I was a bit scared of it. It was something I needed to get off my chest."

He then added: "I used to lean on my mum for a lot of things – anytime I needed advice on something she would be the first call I made. … I’m not at the stage in my grief where I’m going to open the first verse and burst into tears … I don’t want people to get caught up in the sadness of it, the song should be hopeful."

Louis also appeared to allude to the song in an interview with PopBuzz in 2017 which he said: "There's one ballad in particular that's pretty emotional, pretty raw... I've got a feeling they might like that one."

Given how personal the song is we have no doubt that Louis' fans will resonate with it.
