It would appear that Melanie is appearing more confident stepping back into the public as she has taken to posting on Instagram again - this time with the comments turned on.

Melanie Martinez has been laying low since her former friend Timothy Heller accused her of rape back in December. Melanie denied the allegations at the time, claiming in a statement that Timothy "never said no to what we chose to do together."

As we previously reported, Melanie Martinez hadn't posted anything on any of her social channels after the allegations until March this year, when she returned to posting on Instagram, albeit with the comments turned off - perhaps sensing that they would not be in her favour.

Posted yesterday (June 4), Melanie uploaded four pictures of dogs wearing various wigs and hats with the caption "🐁 & 🥜 💕". However, the comments weren't as innocuous, with fans and critics of Melanie arguing over the allegations made by Heller six months ago making up the large majority of the comment section.

The comments appeared to be a fairly even mix of people defending Melanie and those arguing that she shouldn't be returning at all. One fan writes that "I hope you're doing good on your album and stuff love you mel", while another person asks "what does someone have to do to actually loose a fan base?"

Melanie also posted on her Twitter account yesterday (June 4). In the tweet she wrote, "True empathy is putting yourself in someone else’s shoes who you normally wouldn’t. When empathy is restricted by convenience, it contradicts the nature of empathy itself." Many are speculating that she's referring to her current situation with Heller.

The tweet was Melanie's second since the incident - the first being a tweet supporting the album release of an artist called Tierra Whack on May 30th.

What do you think of Melanie's return to social media?
