Miley Cyrus unveils new Liam Hemsworth divorce tattoo at the VMAs

Miley Cyrus unveiled a new tattoo at the MTV VMAs and it appears to be a reference to her divorce from Liam Hemsworth.
Miley Cyrus returned to the VMAs stage last night to perform her new single 'Slide Away' live for the first time. The song is a heartbreaking ballad about Miley and Liam's split and Miley's struggles with addiction. Backed only by strings, Miley gave a raw, impassioned performance of the song. If that weren't enough, she also changed the lyrics adding: "It's time to let you go" at the end. No, I'm not crying. You are.

What viewers may not have realised though is that Miley also debuted a very personal new tattoo at the ceremony.
What does Miley Cyrus' new tattoo say?
It's no secret that Miley is a tattoo queen. The 27-year-old currently lays claim to a collection of over 20 known inks and they include everything from 'Love' on her right ear to a tribute to her late dog Floyd underneath her left armpit. This year, Miley's gotten a tattoo of the word pussy on her right ankle and a portrait of a serpent on her left arm, and now she's added to her set with a moving nod to her divorce.
Fans of Miley immediately noticed on the VMAs red carpet that Miley now has The Pixies lyric: "My head was feeling scared but my heart was feeling free" tattooed on the upper part of her left arm. Given the context of Miley's recent split from Liam, it seems likely that the quote applies to how she feels about their separation. Our hearts.

Earlier this month (Aug 11), a representative for Miley told People magazine: “Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time." They also said: "Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers."
The Metro reports that Miley split from Liam because of his partying habits. She appears to reference this in 'Slide Away', in which she sings: 'I want my house in the hills/Don't want the whiskey and pills'.
Since the split, Miley has been spotted kissing reality TV star Kaitlynn Carter in Italy and she even brought Kaitlynn as her date to the VMAs.
