"In 2017, we got in a room together to see what would happen." Turns out that the road to My Chemical Romance's 2019 comeback was being paved all the way back in 2017.

My Chemical Romance fans will know that the road to the band's comeback announcement has been long and trying. On Halloween, the group announced they would be reforming for a special reunion show in Los Angeles. Later, more dates in Japan, Australia and New Zealand were also announced. But while fans have been hoping, wishing and PRAYING for the band to get back together since they split in 2013, it turns out that My Chem have been playing together again since at least 2017.

My Chemical Romance proved they are masters of keeping a secret after revealing on Twitter today (20 December) that they'd first got "in a room together to see what would happen" all the way back in 2017.

"In 2017, we got in a room together to see what would happen. A couple more jam sessions and 39 days of rehearsals later, we're ready to show you what we’ve learned. See you soon," the band's official Twitter account shared.

Yes, you read that right. Two thousand and seventeen. Of course, we know that jam sessions don't automatically mean plans to reform – but this is huge!

This may come as a surprise considering all the times individual members of the band have denied plans to get back together. In February 2019, Gerard Way told The Guardian that they receive many offers to reunite but that it was probably not on the cards.

"We definitely get offers regularly to reunite – it’s a constant thing," he said. "It's flattering, it’s really nice of people...I miss playing with the guys, but I don't think so..."

Most recently, Joe Jonas caught a bit of flack for revealing that he'd heard that MCR were in the same NYC rehearsal space as Jonas Brothers. This may have been Joe letting the reunion cat out of the bag and Frank Iero definitely had something to say about that snafu.

Tonight (20 December) is their first show together since announcing their comeback and some fans are reportedly already camped out near the venue. People are even reporting on social media that MCR have been handing out blankets to fans waiting outside to see them.

Wow, generous comeback kings. You love to see it!
