Niall Horan also revealed if and when he wants to do a One Direction reunion after releasing 'Nice to Meet Ya'.

Niall Horan has spoken candidly about why One Direction needed to split in 2016 and if a reunion is coming anytime soon.

Speaking to the Telegraph about One Direction going on hiatus, Niall explained: “It was incredible. But we got tired. Not tired of it, just tired out. Five albums, five tours, in five years. We were all knackered. I can never really remember any major bust-ups, just brotherly family nagging, shitty arguments like that. But we were gonna end up killing each other. We all sat down one day, had a chat and it was like, we need to take a break. Step back, chill out and try something new.” I'm sobbing.

Niall also discussed how long the One Direction break will be and if he actually wants the band to ever reunite.

One Direction announced their hiatus all the way back in 2015 but Niall, Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson never actually specified how long their break would be. Talking about it with the Telegraph, Niall explained: “There was no timeline on the gap. I would have preferred if someone said five years, and it probably will end up something like that. I’m enjoying what I’m doing, but if one of the lads were to pick up the phone and say it’s time, I’d do it."

So if the break is actually five years like Niall says, One Direction could technically be back together as soon as 2021. Not to mention, Niall seems up for it. Chatting to Grazia about One Direction's last performance together, Niall stated: "We still had work after that show - but yeah, we were bawling our eyes out right before we went near the stage. We were just like, this is the last time that we will get in a huddle and walk onto a stage for a long time together."

Catch me crying from now until One Direction actually reunite and all is well and good in the world again.

Niall is currently promoting his new single 'Nice to Meet Ya'. 'Nice to Meet Ya' is the first single from Niall's highly anticipated second album. Meanwhile, Harry, Liam, Louis and ZAYN are all releasing their own solo music right now. We can't wait to hear what they all do next, together or apart (...preferably together).

What do you think? Would you like One Direction to reunite?
