Ya'll need to chill the F- out.

*sigh*

Sometimes people with the best of intentions can be wildly misguided in their actions. This is no more true than the #WeLoveYouSelena hashtag that was trending over the weekend.

For those unaware, Justin Bieber semi-confirmed his new relationship with Hailey Baldwin on Instagram. Not really a big deal, but fine. Whatever. We're happy for them. At least, we assume that would have been Selena's reaction.

We're almost certain she didn't spend new year in complete histrionics, sobbing for hours as she obsessively trawled through pictures of her ex boyfriend, all the while eating dozens and dozens of Krispy Kreme doughnuts wondering where it all went wrong. Because, y'know, she's had a revival and she's a strong, independent woman thankyouverymuch.

Some of her fans obviously don't see her that way. We assume #WeLoveYouSelena started off innocently enough, a genuine attempt to make a person feel better about a perceived bad situation. The problem is, when thousands of people are tweeting it and it starts trending, it can look hella patronising. It must have been more than a little embarrassing.

How would you feel if strangers repeatedly came up to you and asked if you're okay, because your ex has a new partner? It would feel strange, and perhaps a bit invasive too. The assumption is that you can't possibly have moved on, or that you're still in bits years later. And even if you weren't over it. You might not want to think about it but, no, here's another person there to assure 'you're not alone'. Yikes!

It's natural for fans to care about the welfare of their faves. We get it. But perhaps getting involved in another person's personal lives in this way isn't the best idea? Particularly en masse like this was. If her latest album is anything to go by, Selena has got her head screwed on and is having the time of her life. As much as we love an excuse to use the Selena crying meme, we can't say we'll be needing it for this news story.

But we'll use it anyway because LOLz.
