Selena Gomez spoke about Justin Bieber in a new interview about 'Lose You to Love Me' and 'Rare'.

Selena Gomez has opened up about being "a victim to [emotional] abuse" while she was in a relationship with Justin Bieber.

Last year, Selena Gomez spoke frankly about how her Number 1 hit single 'Lose You to Love Me' was inspired by her ending a toxic relationship. Talking to Syke on Air, Selena called it "one of the worst chapters of her life." She said: "Everything that happened within two years was a shit show. It takes time for you to even realise that you lost your self."

Selena continued: "I had people fall in love with who I was and then slowly but surely tear that down until I was nothing. I felt worthless. I felt thrown to the side. It was horrible. It was the most disgusting feeling." Selena never mentioned specifically who treated her this way but now she's claimed in a new interview that it was Justin Bieber.

Speaking about 'Lose You to Love Me' with NPR, Selena said: "I needed some way to just say a few things that I wish I had said. It's not a hateful song; it's a song that is saying I had something beautiful and I would never deny that it wasn't that... but it was very difficult and I'm happy it's over. It's done and now here I am stepping into a whole other chapter."

The interviewer then pressed: "Saying goodbye to Justin Bieber?" and Selena replied: "You had to get the name in, I get it." They then asked if Selena finds it hard to reflect on it and Selena said: "No. I've found the strength in it. It's dangerous to stay in a victim mentality. And I'm not being disrespectful - I do feel I was a victim to certain abuse..."

NPR added: "You mean emotional abuse?" and Selena said: "Yes and I think that it's something that I had to find a way to understand it as an adult. And I had to understand the choices I was making. I am really proud that I can say I feel the strongest I've ever felt and I've found a way to just walk through it with as much grace as possible."

In a recent Instagram post, Justin Bieber appeared to reference the abuse Selena is talking about. He didn't mention Selena by name but he spoke about mistreating women in previous relationships and his use of drugs. He wrote: "I started doing pretty heavy drugs at 19 and abused all of my relationships. I became resentful, disrespectful to women, and angry."
