The huge summer single almost never came to be...

Matty Healy has revealed that one of his band's biggest hits was almost given over to his friend's in One Direction.

According to Q Magazine, The 1975's HUGE single "The Sound" was apparently originally intended for the boyband, Matty presenting the unfinished track to them during a studio session.

I went into the studio with them [One Direction] for a couple of hours to work on some stuff and, funnily enough, I ended up showing them ‘The Sound’ as a suggestion, but nothing came of it” he told Q. “I was asked to do it, so I thought I’d see how it all works but it just didn’t really work very well. It didn’t resonate so I thought I’d stick to own thing.

Given that "The Sound" has now become a highlight of recent live sets, we are certain that Matty is pleased that it "didn't really work very well" with Harry Styles and co. Still, a 1D take on this piano-based house banger would certainly have been interesting to hear - imagine the harmonies on that chorus!!!

Huge song!

Matty had previously been invited into the studio by the band and had long been wrongly thought of as a co-writer on "Change Your Ticket" after fans noted it's similarity to The 1975's "Girls". The band also covered "What Makes You Beautiful in a recent concert with the BBC philharmonic orchestra.

The 1975 return to the UK on tour later this year.
