Marina Diamandis has confirmed that her fourth album will drop in 2019. Here's everything we know so far.

Marina and the Diamonds has confirmed that she has finished work on her fourth album and that it will be released in 2019.

In an interview with PopBuzz, Marina explained: "I want to tell people details all the time but I can't because I have been planning it for ages."

"It's not really conceptual in ways like Electra Heart was but there is a looser... there is a concept in terms of how it's going to be released that you will find out in April but I am going to release a new song in January".

In another interview at the end with Global's showbiz reporter Laura Kramer, Marina confirmed that she had been working on the record all year and that it is now complete.

"So I've just finished my record which will be coming out next year and I've basically just been doing that in between 'Baby' promo".

In a tweet in May (20th) Marina wrote that she was "writing music in Stockholm - So happy!" as well as posting a selfie of herself out about about in the Swedish capital. She has since followed that up with a longer message on her Twitter (July 3).

In the message Marina writes, "Hello friends, I hope you're all enjoying the summer! I'm on my way to LA to finish production on my next record + I feel so happy with it. I know it's been a while but I promise this next record will be worth the wait! See you in the autumn. Love, Marina".

Scream!

After she finished touring her last album, FROOT, in 2016 Marina announced that she was taking a break from music to study a psychology course and focus on readjusting to life off the road. But it wasn't long before Marina started sharing updates on her social media about writing the new record and getting back in the studio.

Back in April, Marina shared what fans believe to be a lyric from a new song taken from the next record. "Roses line the streets like diamonds in a ring", she wrote underneath an image of herself next to giant pink flower and what appears to be a wooden wagon. Casual.

So what do we know about Marina's new album? Details are still scant but here's everything we could find so far.

When is the release date?

Back in September 2017, Marina wrote that, "Truth is, I’m not planning ahead much right now... Some people have been asking about new music and I’m always flattered to be asked... The honest answer is I don’t know when that will be, but the connection I have with music has always flowered from an honest connection with myself, and I trust my instincts."

In another post from earlier this year, Marina wrote, "I’m far from starting the next campaign" and that she has been, "thinking about how I can create a better life for myself as an artist, on a day-to-day level, but also how I can best spend my energy in contributing something positive or helpful."

Now it looks likely that an album could drop in April 2019, with several songs being released beforehand.

What is the album called?

According to message board chatter, "Aquamarina" or "Aquamarine" are possible album titles, as well as "Marina" and "Marina Diamondis" but there is no hard evidence at the moment to suggest that any of these are true.

Who is Marina working with?

Marina took full control over the songwriting on her last record and it's likely she'll stick to being the primary songwriter on the forthcoming record, given that FROOT was both a critical and commercial success.

That said, Marina will likely still work with one or two producers. Last time she worked with David Kosten on FROOT but there hasn't been any mention of his name so far on her social media. Joe Janiak and songwriter Jessie Saint John have been mentioned as possible collaborators and Marina also shared a photo of herself hanging out with super producer Jack Antonoff (Taylor Swift, Lorde etc.) and her close friend Lana Del Rey. Could a collaboration between the three of them be on the cards? We sure as hell hope so.

Another likely name to throw into the mix is Marina's boyfriend Jack Patterson from UK band Clean Bandit. The pair have collaborated on Clean Bandit's 'Disconnect' (CB's best song in our humble opinion) and 'Baby', so it's not beyond the realm of possibility that they worked on more material together.

At Capital FM's Jingle Bell Ball said she told PopBuzz she would love to collaborate with Lana Del Rey.

What new songs are on the tracklist?

The titled for two song names have surfaced online. The first, 'You' was written and/or produced with Joe Janiak, who has previously written/produced for Britney Spears, Tove Lo and Ellie Goulding.

Another song, 'Worth It', has allegedly been registered under Marina's name and songwriter Jessie Saint John, who has written for Camila Cabello, The Neighbourhood and Charli XCX. 'Superstar' and 'Emotional Machine' are two other track names floating around the ether.

One song, 'I'm Not Hungry Anymore', was mysteriously uploaded to Spotify earlier this week (July 1st) but not on any other platforms and it was not promoted on any of Marina's official channels. It appears with was an error by Spotify or her record label, if this tweet is to be believed.

Of course, the actual tracklist will not be confirmed until Marina announces the album.

What will the record sound like?

Marina does not sit still when it comes to the musical direction of her albums, so expect something different from what she has done before. The only thing we have to go on so far was this short but incredibly promising tweet from Marina in March.

Slay us with those bittersweet bangers, Marina!

More recently, Marina responded to a fan on Twitter with more information on the sound of the next record. “Every one of @MarinaDiamandis albums have such a different sound" read the tweet. "From The family Jewels to Electra Heart to Froot, they're all contrast each other yet compliment each other as well, part of the reason why im so excited for the new album”. To which Marina responded: “The 4th record continues the pattern”.
