Listen to the surprising new ad.
By now, most of us will be aware of the mounting pressure Sony is receiving to drop controversial figure, Dr Luke. The producer is facing accusations from singer, Kesha regarding alleged misconduct. The pair have been embroiled in a lengthy legal battle for months.
Fans have done so much to show their support for Kesha over the last few months. #FreeKesha is a very visible and viral campaign and the outpouring from Kesha's peers and fans is like nothing we've ever seen before. Now fans and advocates for the liberation of Kesha are upping the ante with a new Pandora radio ad that will seriously give you chills.
The ad was made by an organization called UltraViolet whose mission statement is this:
UltraViolet is a powerful and rapidly growing community of people from all walks of life mobilized to fight sexism and expand women’s rights, from politics and government to media and pop culture. UltraViolet works on a range of issues including health care, economic security, violence, reproductive rights, racial justice, and immigration by putting the voices of all women, especially women of color and LGBTQ women, front and center.Ultraviolet
This ad represents a grassroots effort that fans can now take part in. Hearing this ad on Pandora and hopefully elsewhere, can inspire fans to get involved and mobilize further efforts in telling Sony to drop Dr. Luke from their roster of collaborators.
And, so far as we know, nothing like this has ever really been done before. It's at the forefront of popular culture and involves two high profile figures in the music industry. However, UltraViolet's approach is unconventional and may prove to be very effective. As long as people can keep hearing about Kesha's ordeal, they will certain be inspired to do something to help her.
It's not certain if this will be the move that makes Sony drop Dr Luke, but one thing is certain. We've officially crossed over into #FreeKesha Phase 2. Fans have protested outside the courthouse, made her story go viral, and given Kesha the voice that Sony has denied her. FreeKesha phase 2 will be coming at Sony loud and clear.
